The Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre, forest pathology research group is seeking a laboratory technician to work with projects dealing with invasive pathogens affecting tree health.

About the position
We are seeking a highly motivated person that will work as a research technician within several projects dealing with invasive forest pathogens (e.g. Phytophthora and ash decline). The applicant will work alongside a group of experienced researchers, Post-docs, and PhD students specializing in forest and tree health.

As a technician you will establish and maintain effective working relationships with external partners and work cooperatively with other staff members in completing assigned work and meeting required deadlines. You will also maintain detailed field and lab notebooks.

Your profile
Your educational background should be in natural sciences (forest, agricultural or horticultural science) or molecular biology, and you have some previous experience laboratory technician. The desired applicant should have a combination of experience and education that will give the required knowledge, skill, and ability for this position. This would typically include:      


• Experience in diagnostic or working in a research laboratory (using microscopy, culturing techniques and molecular methods for plant disease diagnostics)
• Familiarity with general laboratory equipment (balances, autoclaves, centrifuges, tissue homogenizers) 
• Experience using molecular techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR, sample preparation for sequencing, alignment and editing sequence data.
• Experience with MS Office Suite-particularly Excel and Power Point; entering data in spreadsheets and database
• Good bioinformatics skills, particularly experience in analysis of sequencing data.

Not required, but an advantage:


• Experience with qRT-PCR
• Previous work with RNA, including RNA extractions
• eDNA sampling and analysis (for insects, fungi, oomycetes)

Because the applicant will have contact with various stakeholders and the public, strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. Excellent working knowledge of Swedish and English, in both written and spoken form, is needed. Creativity and drive are personal characteristics that are desirable due to the knowledge-driven aspect of the projects.

A valid drivers licence is required.
