Senior lecturer in statistics

The School of Business and Economics conducts research and education in business administration, economics, statistics, and tourism science. We contribute entrepreneurial thinking and sustainable solutions for complex organizational and societal problems. We take pride in our long tradition of collaboration with the surrounding community. We are accredited through AACSB.
The position is hosted by the Department of Economics and Statistics. We offer education at all levels and provide an excellent research environment embedded in Scandinavian and international networks. Our research connects policy and societally relevant issues with the analysis of big data. The department has grown significantly, with a dynamic team of about 25 researchers publishing in top journals and attracting external funds. We are also launching new educational packages in business analytics, financial statistics, and the analysis of policy with big data.
Subject area for the position: Statistics.
Location: Växjö. Since Linnaeus University is located in both Växjö and Kalmar, travel between these locations may be required.
Employment extent: full-time (100%), fixed-term employment, one year.

Job description:
The employment includes planning, teaching and examination within our various programs, independent courses and distance courses in statistics. Teaching at other faculties also occurs. The lecturer is expected to conducting research in statistics, both applied and theoretical, along with active involvement in course development within the domain of modern data science and the establishment of courses in business statistics, business analytics, and financial analytics.
Eligibility
Those qualified for appointment as a senior lecturer are individuals who have been awarded a PhD in statistics or possess equivalent scientific skills. They should also demonstrate teaching expertise in statistics, with their teaching skills well-documented in a manner that allows for an assessment of the quality of their teaching activities.
In addition, candidates are expected to have documented research skills in developing and applying methods of modern statistical analysis (e.g., statistical learning/machine learning, high-dimensional statistics). Moreover, they should possess documented skills in applying this knowledge to business, financial statistics, or economics research.
Knowledge of English is a requirement, while knowledge of Swedish is not mandatory at the time of employment.
Assessment criteria and qualifications
As criteria for the appointment of a senior lecturer, the degree of skill required for eligibility for the position shall be considered. The assessment of pedagogical skills shall receive equal attention as the assessment of other eligibility requirements.
Guiding the assessment of scientific expertise is the independence, scope, and quality of one's own research.
Pedagogical skill must be demonstrated through teaching and includes the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of teaching, as well as supervision and examination. Pedagogical skill should demonstrate a reflective approach to students' learning and to one's own teaching role.
For appointments to the position the following points should be met:
• High proficiency in teaching, including the capacity to design, develop own teaching across various levels using diverse teaching methodologies.
• Documented ability to teach statistics courses in English.
• Documented ability to collaborate with coworkers and colleagues.
• Documented experience in research or teaching in modern data analysis and computer-intensive methods, as well as knowledge of R, SPSS and Stata.
• Active collaboration with fellow researchers.
High competence in teaching, including the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate own teaching and education at all levels.
Meritorious:
University pedagogical training of at least 15 higher education credits.
