Senior Specialist MIMO Perf. Prototyping
Join our Team
About this opportunity:
MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) has been one of the key advantages for 4G, and more so for 5G and future wireless technologies, as the primary method for improving spectrum efficiency and as a result, the cell throughput, cell capacity, UE scheduling latency, UE throughput and other important KPIs that are critical for any operators.
MIMO is inherently complex, right from how 3GPP has defined the framework to support MIMO operation in the specification, to the degree of freedom vendors have, to design their own algorithms to allow their baseband and radios to collaborate in the best way possible to uncover the potential in performance. Ericsson has historically been doing a good job within research and standardization phase, as well as early phase study (e.g. TAO), partially thanks to the few well defined technical leader roles that are focused on early phase e.g. Principal Developer in Active Antenna System (AAS) Technologies Strategies and Expert in Multi-Antenna Architecture and Functionalities.
MIMO in 5G/NR continues to be a key area Ericsson needs to evolve to maintain performance leadership and such need will remain for 6G as well for moving towards the common solution between Cloud RAN and MSRBS baseband.
The position holder will help to bring valuable observations and learning from the customer networks e.g. realistic traffic patterns, unexpected UE limitations etc. into our product realization in a systematic way and in a timely manner for improvements.
What you will do:
- Serve as the baseband system technical leader in the space of MIMO field performance.
- Follow key feature performance in field and define improvements.
- Understand the field performance of the MIMO set of features and drive innovation and prototyping of new ideas to improve the field performance.
- Actively engage in customer collaborations and benchmarking activities in the MIMO area.
- Identify and propose AI and ML optimizations for the MIMO area.
- Follow testing of important features – in OTA, Lab, FOA. Work with System Feature Support person to analyze and define improvements in configuration or systemization.
- Drive analysis of lacking performance observability and define improvements.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and owners of tools to improve our tool environment for lab and field analysis of performance.
- Propose prototyping when this is a suitable approach for testing improvement ideas.
- Keep updated on UE capabilities and flaws and propose how to adapt our solutions to these facts, including but not limited to influence SPP and feature design, propose OnePagers or Trouble Reports
- Understand in-field feature interaction & activation, parameter settings and the relation to performance.
- Review the systemization of solutions and their implementation.
- Represent Ericsson as a technical leader in contacts with customers, competitors, partners, and academia.
- Foster innovation and file patents in the domain to secure relevant intellectual property for Ericsson.
- Teach, coach, and mentor colleagues on the different aspects of the domain.
- Stay updated on key industry trends, academic research, and technology development in the domain and disseminate acquired knowledge across the organization.
- Build and maintain a professional and international network of peer technology authorities within and outside Ericsson.
The skills you bring:
- MSc or above in a relevant field, e.g. Electrical Engineering or Wireless Communication
- 15+ years' experience with 4G and 5G wireless communication system design and MIMO technology.
