Postodoctoral scholar in edge systems
The team working on this project, consisting of the PI with three new PhD students, works across the entire edge stack, (re-)defining how edge systems are designed, built, and operated. Together, we aim to answer the following four research Questions:
• What is the right architecture to build a distributed edge cloud, taking into account the trade-offs between
cost, performance, bandwidth, and energy?
• How to design adaptive edge applications that can utilize the full potential of the edge infrastructure given
the multiple edge constraints?
• How to manage the workload dynamics of real-time edge cloud applications taking into account mobility,
load spikes, failures, and performance inversion?
• How to manage and process massive data of edge applications in real-time while maintaining the
requirements on data privacy and security?
Information about the project and the department
This project is funded with a Future Research Leaders SSF grant. You will work closely with the PI and your colleagues on some of the hardest (and most fun!) problems today in computer systems. The division of Computer and Network Systems where you will be employed has top-notch faculty and students covering all fields of computer systems. The department of Computer science and engineering is one of the best computer science departments in Sweden and Europe.
Main responsibilities
• Research
• Writing research grants
• Maintaining a cutting edge research infrastructure with small and large server nodes
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position may also include teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline.
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.
* The date shown in your doctoral degree certificate is the date we use, as this is the date you have met all requirements for the doctoral degree. Exceptions from the 3-year limit can be made for longer periods resulting from parental leave, sick leave or military service.
Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for up to three years.
