Data Engineer

As a Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in building and optimizing data products in line with the principles of the Data Mesh framework, while working towards a defined target vision and business requirements.

You will be part of the Data Engineering competence area within the broader AI, Analytics, and Data domain. Here, your work will contribute to providing high-quality, structured, and accessible data across the organization, supporting brands and teams globally.

Key Responsibilities:

– Take end-to-end ownership of developing, optimizing, and supporting both new and existing data products to align with the overall vision and goals.

– Champion a DevOps mindset by managing CI/CD pipelines, Terraform configurations, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure.

– Ensure all developed data products operate as standalone, deployable units that meet standards for security, scalability, observability, and performance.

– Collaborate closely with Product Managers and stakeholders to align on the vision of current data products and to identify opportunities for new data products.

– Engage with teams within and outside the domain to support the Data Mesh approach and foster cross-functional collaboration.

– Continuously improve team workflows, reduce technical debt, and promote best practices.

– Stay updated on the latest advancements in data, analytics, and cloud technologies to ensure cutting-edge solutions.

Qualifications:

– Technical Skills:

– A genuine passion for data, technology, and collaboration.

– Minimum 4+ years of hands-on experience as a Data Engineer, with expertise in GCP or other modern cloud-based platforms.

– Proficiency in GCP tools such as BigQuery, DBT, Dataflow, Cloud Run, Cloud Composer, and Pub/Sub.

– Familiarity with various data formats like Parquet and Avro.

– Strong knowledge of SQL or similar data query languages.

– Programming experience in Python, Java, or Scala, with a focus on data-centric programming.

– Solid understanding of data modeling techniques, including trade-offs and best practices.

– Knowledge of both relational (RDBMS) and NoSQL databases.

– Experience in infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform.

– Basic familiarity with Azure Cloud services is a plus.

Soft Skills:

– Proficient in version control tools such as GitHub and comfortable working in a DevOps environment.

– Skilled in setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.

– Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.

– Agile mindset, with experience in Agile methodologies and frameworks.

– Self-motivated and capable of making independent decisions in a dynamic work environment.

Bonus Skills:

– Experience with data visualization tools.

– Business understanding of the retail industry.
