The Institute of Health and Care Sciences is a national and international leader in person- centred care, which is reflected in its education, research, and innovation. The institute is organised into academic environments structured around interdisciplinary profile areas. These environments integrate collective expertise to enhance the quality of education, research, and collaboration.
The institute offers professional education programmes for nurses, radiology nurses, midwives, and specialist nurses. In addition, it provides commissioned education and standalone courses at the advanced level, allowing students to pursue further studies up to a master’s degree within the institute’s main disciplines: nursing, radiography, and health pedagogy. The institute also conducts doctoral education in health sciences.
The position is primarily based within the Section for Diagnostics and Care in Acute and Critical Conditions, which includes specialist nursing programmes in anaesthetic care, intensive care, surgical care, and operating theatre care. The section also includes the radiography and midwifery programmes. Teaching is mainly conducted within the area of Diagnostics and Care in Acute and Critical Conditions, but relevant duties may also involve collaboration with other sections within the department, if needed.

Nursing with a Specialization in Anaesthesia Care
Subject area description
Nursing encompasses knowledge about human development, health, and well-being in connection with birth, illness, suffering, and death. The aim is to promote a meaningful life despite illness or disability, as well as to enable a dignified death. The focus of nursing is to alleviate suffering, promote health, and prevent illness and poor health at the individual, group, and societal levels. Nursing is based on needs and issues related to health and illness, as well as to daily life, but also on individuals’ resources and their ability to manage their life situation.
Duties
The duties include planning and teaching, coordinating resources, ensuring continuity across courses, staying updated on current developments within the subject areas, and serving as course coordinator. As course coordinator, you will be responsible for developing and coordinating learning outcomes, learning activities, forms of examination, and assessment criteria in relation to course content, objectives, and current pedagogical research. The role also includes quality assurance of the education through validated evaluation methods.
You will supervise and assess undergraduate theses and supervise theses at the advanced level. Administrative tasks related to educational activities form a significant part of the role. Additionally, the position involves actively contributing to the development of the main subject area, as well as collaboration with the healthcare sector regarding clinical placements. Other tasks may also be included, and the content of the position may evolve over time.
The role also involves actively contributing to achieving the department’s goals and operational plan, which includes working to develop the academic environment within the section’s Complete Academic Environment (KAM). Furthermore, all staff members are expected to participate in the scheduled joint meetings and activities organised by the department.
The successful candidate must be able to teach in both Swedish and English.
Eligibility
Eligibility for an appointment as a teacher is specified in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg.
A university education at a minimum of advanced level, demonstrated teaching proficiency, and a specialist nursing degree with a focus on anaesthetic care. Swedish nursing licence required.
Proficiency in both Swedish and English, spoken and written, is essential.
