About the position 

We are now looking to appoint a summer worker for the Spectroscopy Instrument Division. 

The Spectroscopy Instrument Division is responsible for the delivery of the spectroscopy instruments – both those that are currently under construction; MIRACLES, CSPEC, BIFROST, T-REX and VESPA, and those we will build in the future, yet to be determined. 

As a summer worker your main tasks will be to work with neutron scattering scientists to simulate novel instrument concepts using Ray Tracing Methods. 

About you 

A suitable background for this position would be:


• Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Physics or Chemistry.
• Preliminary knowledge of neutron scattering techniques.
• Preliminary knowledge of neutron ray tracing software.
• Good written and oral communication skills in English.
• Minimum age 18 years.

We believe that you enjoy communicating and collaborating with a variety of people in an international environment. You are good at taking initiative and not afraid to ask questions. 

Duration and location 

This is a summer work position of 3-4 months, as agreed.

Planned start date is May/June, 2025 or per agreement.

Your workplace is on-site at ESS in Lund, Sweden.
