Your opportunity:

The backfill engineer ensures the successful design, operation, and maintenance of paste and backfill systems for facilities in the mill and the mine. This includes safe production, rheology in the pipes, stress and strain and application of the backfill materials to meet the operational backfill needs and quality requirements of the mine.

The working hours are office hours, with additional underground work. Travel may be required for this position.

Who you will work with:

You will be a part of a supportive and talented team, collaborating closely with professionals from various departments, and you will have the opportunity to work with industry-leading technology and tools.

You report to the Section Manager for Production at the mill.

What you will do:

• Optimize the mixture of sand, binder, water, and any additives to achieve desired stress and strain requirements, ensure the rheology in the pipes, and maintain cost efficiency.
• Stay updated with the latest technical developments in the field, lead improvement projects, and evaluate new technologies, methods and practices.
• Perform troubleshooting, investigations, and data analysis to identify potential issues or opportunities for improvement in the paste system.
• Develop documentation for procedures and instructions for paste personnel both in the Mill and the Mine.

To succeed in this role, you need great communication and collaboration skills and a pedagogical manner. You need to be attentive to the requirements of the mine, as communicated by mine planning and rock mechanics. Furthermore, effective cooperation with mine services, the production unit in the paste plant, and other engineers within the organization is crucial.

What you bring:

• Bachelor's degree in mining engineering, chemical engineering or equivalent education
• Category B driving license
• Proficiency in English, both spoken and written
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Proficiency in computer systems and other relevant systems

Meritorious qualifications include:

• 3-5 years of experience with paste backfill systems
• Project management experience
• Leadership experience
• Proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written
