Are you interested in developing novel materials that can withstand extreme temperatures, paving the way for more efficient turbine engines? If so, we invite you to apply for this postdoctoral position!

Project description

The goal of this project is to advance ultrahigh-temperature turbine engine materials that could potentially replace conventional Ni-based alloys. We aim to develop a novel system based on high-entropy ceramic coatings and refractory alloys, offering superior mechanical properties and oxidation resistance at extreme temperatures. This research will help push the boundaries of ultrahigh-temperature material science and may lead to the next generation of high-performance materials for aerospace and related energy sectors.

We are now seeking a postdoctoral researcher with proven experimental experience in coating materials for ultrahigh-temperature applications. Ideally, you also have some knowledge of high-entropy materials (ceramics or alloys) or refractory alloys. You will play a key role in driving the research forward.

About the division and department

The Department of Industrial and Materials Science at Chalmers University of Technology is a hub for research in areas such as Human-Technology Interaction, Form and Function, Modelling and Simulation, Product Development, Materials, and Production — and, importantly, the interaction between these domains. Our work spans the entire industrial process, from identifying needs to developing finished products, creating added value throughout.

The Division of Materials and Manufacture is part of this department and covers the full value chain from materials design and processing to characterization and machining. We collaborate closely with other universities, research institutes, and industry through both strategic initiatives and applied research projects.

Main responsibilities

As a postdoctoral researcher in this project, you will be part of the Division of Materials and Manufacture. The majority of your time will be devoted to your research work. You are expected to plan, conduct, and disseminate your research within both small and large collaborative environments. In addition, you may take part in supervising MSc and PhD students.

Your profile

• You must hold a PhD in Materials Science, Physics, or a related field, awarded no more than three years before the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers).
• You should have extensive experience in experimental techniques relevant to coating materials for ultrahigh-temperature applications — this is a requirement.
• Prior experience with high-entropy materials (alloys or ceramics) or refractory alloys is highly desirable.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential.
• Proficiency in oral and written English is required.

If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses to support integration.

*The date stated on your doctoral degree certificate is the one used to determine eligibility. Exceptions from the 3-year limit can be made for longer periods resulting from parental leave, sick leave or military service.
