R&D Senior Engineer – HVDC Development (Consulting Assignment, Ludvika)

About the Opportunity
We are looking for a highly motivated R&D Senior Engineer with a PhD in Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of next-generation HVDC (High-Voltage Direct Current) converter valves, supporting advanced technology that enables efficient and reliable transmission of energy worldwide.
The assignment is based in Ludvika, Sweden, and requires you to already hold a valid work permit for Sweden.
Your Responsibilities
• Lead the electrical design of HVDC converter valves, including capacitor integration.
• Perform design calculations, circuit simulations, and stress analysis on electrical components, especially capacitors.
• Specify, select, and qualify high-voltage capacitors for power electronics applications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, insulation, control, and system design) to ensure seamless integration of capacitor units.
• Work together with external research partners and suppliers on capacitor technology development.
• Prepare and review technical requirements, specifications, test plans, and validation reports.
• Participate in high-voltage validation and reliability testing in laboratory environments.
• Document R&D results and present findings to internal stakeholders and external partners.
• Contribute to design reviews and digital initiatives.
Your Background
• PhD in Power Engineering or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent master´s degree with industrial experience).
• Strong expertise in capacitor technologies and power electronic converter technologies.
• Experience with dielectric materials, passive components, and high-voltage environments.
• Knowledge of reliability engineering is desirable.
• Proven track record in R&D projects and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in English (written and spoken).
Additional Information
This assignment starts as soon as possible and requires on-site presence in Ludvika, Sweden. Therefore, applicants must already reside in Sweden and hold a valid work permit.
