We are now looking for a Staff Scientist to join our team and help coordinating research projects and activities within yeast biotechnology. You will have a key role in the division supporting with methodology in the front-line and enable us to work in efficient work-flows.
About the role
As a Staff Scientist, you will become part of a professional research environment where your specialist competence contributes to the quality and continuity of ongoing scientific work. In this role, you are expected to support research activities with your expertise and to work closely with colleagues and research leaders to help maintain and support the development of the research environment.
About the division and department
The department of life sciences conducts research, innovation, and education to enable a biobased society and improve human health. We explore how biological systems, and innovative technologies can be used to convert biomass into valuable products. We use advanced computational technologies to discover how biomolecules and organisms function and interact. We pioneer new methods for prediction, prevention, diagnostics and treatment of diseases.
At the division of industrial biotechnology, we combine fundamental and applied research that contributes to the development of a bio-based, sustainable society. In particular, we focus on microbial processes and enzymes acting on renewable biomass.
Our research is aimed at contributing to the developing bioeconomy by discovering, characterizing, improving and applying microorganisms and enzymes in bioprocesses. We work with a broad range of tools including bioprospecting, systems biology, cell factory design, fermentation physiology, biosensors. These different tools are applied to gain detailed understanding of the microorganisms we work with and to study how they interact with natural and industrial substrates and environments.
Your responsibilities
As a Staff Scientist, you are part of a research group where you will provide advanced scientific, technical, and methodological support to strengthen research activities. Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating research projects related to yeast synthetic biology and biotechnology.
- Implementing, developing and maintaining relevant methodology at the front-line ensuring high-quality and efficient work-flows.
- Providing scientific support in experimental design, data interpretation and reporting/publishing to BSc, MSc and doctoral students as well as to postdocs .
- Establishing and maintaining research collaborations and support in grant writing.
Qualifications and merits
To qualify for this position, you should have:
- A doctoral degree in Synthetic Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology or similar.
- Competence in advanced experimental techniques in yeast molecular biology and metabolic engineering on a postdoctoral level.
- Extensive experience in multi-omics data generation and integration for functional analysis.
- Documented experience in supporting students and researchers in planning, and executing experiments within the expert areas.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English (Swedish language courses are offered)
- Excellent communication skills in international settings.
The following qualifications are considered meritorious:
- Peer‑reviewed publications in leading journals
- Experience from writing research applications
